The newest Julia Tyler First Spouse Coins were again the biggest US Mint sellers. The proof and uncirculated options climbed by 217 and 133, respectively.
Van Buren’s Liberty proof performed better than normal. Sales increased by 77 compared to last week’s 41.
Gold coin prices rose by $25 on Wednesday. The Mint used its pricing policy to adjust coins upward as a result of gold’s recent rise above $950 an ounce. Proof and uncirculated First Spouse Coins are now $654.00 and $641.00 respectively. The changes will likely have some affect on next week’s sales figures.
Thursday is likely to be the last day of Jackson’s Liberty uncirculated coin, since the new Sarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coins go on sale at noon ET. The US Mint’s sales report actually shows the coin as no longer available, and does not have updated figures for them. They are still listed for sale on the Mint’s website, however.

First Spouse Gold Coin sales mostly declined with only three of the nine U.S. Mint gold commemoratives showing improvements compared to the prior report.
As mentioned last week, when the proof Andrew Jackson Liberty’s First Spouse Coin was taken off sale by the U.S. Mint, the uncirculated version received more attention. That resulted in a spike in sales of 261 compared the the prior weekly gain of 34. The total uncirculated sold thus far is 4,754.
The biggest seller is still the newly offered Julia Tyler Proof gold piece. Collectors purchased 333 of them, bringing the total to 2,420 coins in the first 18 days.

The First Spouse Coin news of the week is the sell out of Jackson’s Liberty proof coin. The US Mint unexpectedly placed the gold piece in its "sold out" category, although the uncirculated option is still available to buy.
Most who follow the series were expecting the US Mint to stop selling both coins on the morning of Sept. 3, which is the day Sarah Polk First Spouse Coins are released.
The latest proof and uncirculated sales tallies for each coin are 7,806 and 4,493, respectively. It can be a challenge to find the coins on the secondary market, as current eBay auctions
highlight. Expect the uncirculated sales figures to jump more than normal in next week’s report.
In terms of weekly sales, Julia Tyler First Spouse Gold coins were again leaders. The US Mint placed the $10 commemoratives on sale Thursday, August 6. As of Sunday, August 16, collectors purchased 2,087 proof and 1,125 uncirculated — a weekly respective increase of 548 and 295, or a gain of more than 35% for each.

First Spouse Gold Coins are shining a bit brighter of late. New US Mint figures show sales improved across all options.
Julia Tyler coins were the trophy winners, earning the top two spots for most sold. The US Mint placed the $10 gold pieces on sale Thursday, August 6. By Sunday, August 9, collectors purchased 1,539 proof and 830 uncirculated.
With both Letitia and Julia Tyler First Spouse Coins now available, there are ten coins in the series to choose from instead of eight which has been the norm for over a year. Will more options help or hurt future sales?

The guide also includes an adjustable gold spot price which drives the coin pricing grid. While a modern collectible gold coin’s intrinsic value should not be used to judge its numismatic worth, knowing the value of gold within a coin is nevertheless insightful.
The demand for First Spouse Gold Coins leaned lower over a seven day period ended Sunday, August 2.
That latest stats from the United States Mint show declining sales for seven of the eight gold coin offerings when compared to the prior week. Anna Harrison’s gold piece was the sole option to rise, gaining a modest 35 over the prior 27. The new total is 2,511.
Letitia Tyler’s proof coin provided the most noticeable change within the group. It topped 3,000.
Speaking of Tyler coins, Julia Tyler coins launch Aug. 6. (Julia was John Tyler’s second wife following Letitia, who was the first wife of a president to die while her husband was still in office.) The series should get fresh eyes and possibly better sales. Recent higher gold prices coupled with unchanged First Spouse coin prices may help as well. Each coin contains one-half ounce of .9999 fine gold, which is an intrinsic value of about $483 using Wednesday’s closing gold price.

Sales of the $10 denominated Julia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins began at noon Eastern Time on Thursday, August 6. As the eleventh coin in the First Lady series, they are actually the second pair of Tyler coins and follow the set honoring President Tyler’s first wife Letitia, who died during the former president’s second year in office.

Prices for the gold coins are based on the US Mint’s precious metals pricing structure and can change based on average gold prices. The initial price for the proof option is $629 while the uncirculated is set at $616.
The obverse, or "heads", side of the Julia Tyler Coin features a portrait of Julia designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart. US Mint First Spouse Gold Coin sales improved ever so slightly compared to the last reading reported on July 22.
Then, six of eight coins retreated in sales. The newest US Mint figures show four of eight coins gained, one was unchanged and three declined, when comparing the week prior and week-over-week increases for the gold coins.
Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coins went on sale July 2. Both options have declined in demand — a mostly normal occurrence when several weeks have passed since launch. Further declines should be anticipated during the weeks to come. As for the numbers, the proof picked up by 235 from the prior 376 gain while the uncirculated climbed by 108 versus 173.
The proof Anna Harrison was the other coin to slide, with 56 new coins sold compared to the previous 58. Jackson Liberty’s proof was the gold coin that remained unchanged with the same 60 additional sold. The uncirculated option was a leader in the First Lady series, gaining 48 over the prior 15.

US Mint First Spouse Gold Coin sales were mostly on par with typical summer figures of late — there was no coin to really brag about… Again leaders from a pure numbers stand point were Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coins issued July 2. Proof and uncirculated options increased by 376 and 173, respectively.
The figures show demand retreated for six of eight First Lady coins when compared to the prior week. Performing marginally better were Anna Harrison and Jackson’s Liberty proofs. The former increased by 58 from 46 and the latter improved by 60 from 39.
It is official… Louisa Adams First Spouse Gold Coins have been off sale since July 2. Their numbers have remained unchanged for more than two weeks. 7,454 proof and 4,223 uncirculated were sold. These coins are the scarcest of the no longer US Mint sold First Spouse Coins.

There are no exceptionally flashy numbers to report in the latest round of US Mint First Spouse Gold Coin sales figures.
With the exception of the two newest issues, no First Lady commemorative managed to surpass 46 in news sales last week.
The US Mint launched the Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins on July 2. As of Sunday, July 12, a total of 3,605 were sold. As is typical with this series and most others, the proof coin is leading. 2,369 were purchased by collectors compared to 1,236 of the uncirculated option.
The 2008-dated Louisa Adams First Spouse Gold Coins have been off sale since July 2. Their numbers have remained unchanged for more than a week, and are likely fixed with a final figures of 7,454 proof and 4,223 uncirculated — officially the scarsist of the no longer Mint sold First Spouse Coins.
