The newest Julia Tyler First Spouse Coins were again the biggest US Mint sellers. The proof and uncirculated options climbed by 217 and 133, respectively.
Van Buren’s Liberty proof performed better than normal. Sales increased by 77 compared to last week’s 41.
Gold coin prices rose by $25 on Wednesday. The Mint used its pricing policy to adjust coins upward as a result of gold’s recent rise above $950 an ounce. Proof and uncirculated First Spouse Coins are now $654.00 and $641.00 respectively. The changes will likely have some affect on next week’s sales figures.
Thursday is likely to be the last day of Jackson’s Liberty uncirculated coin, since the new Sarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coins go on sale at noon ET. The US Mint’s sales report actually shows the coin as no longer available, and does not have updated figures for them. They are still listed for sale on the Mint’s website, however.

Seeing that “no longer sold” coins didn’t come close to approaching the posted mintage limit I’m wondering what happens to the surplus. Seeing a quick article about what happens to these coins would be nice.
Are they destroyed?
Are they deposited somewhere to be sold at a later date? If so what other coins are sitting in vaults just waiting to be released. And under what circumstances to they get released?
Thanks.
Nathan.
