Lower prices helped boost sales for Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins. Proof and uncirculated versions’ combined to reach 262, nearly half of the entire series weekly total of 538, according to the latest United States Mint sales figures. The previous gains were much lower — 112 for the Pierce coins out of 282 for the whole group.
Every coin actually gained in sales over prior weekly numbers. Jane Pierce proofs rose the most by adding 211. Sarah Polk uncirculated was the second biggest gainer, increasing by 97. Sarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coins awoke from a long sleep, the most recent United States Mint sales figures revealed. The uncirculated gold piece jumped by 78, and the proofs advanced by 27. Polk’s numbers haven’t been that high since a surprise spike in April. The increase for the uncirculated version moved the total beyond the 3,000 mark, and together 7,909 have sold since they launched on Sept. 3, 2009.
In seven days, the entire Spouse series gained 282, up from 181 previously. Five out of the available eight coins saw higher sales, and seven experienced double digit gains. Still, July has not been as good as June, but that is to be expected since the U.S. Mint released the Jane Pierce coins on June 3 which drew in the typical influx of orders.
Jane Pierce proofs came in second place by a hair, since they increased by 77. Pierce’s uncirculated took third, rising by 35. Abigail Fillmore uncirculated coins ranked last, for the second week in a row, but at least their gain was positive. If lagging United States Mint sales is an indication of summer, then summer is here. Demand settled for the entire series, not just the most recent Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin issues.
As a group the entire series gained 181, the most recent U.S. Mint sales data showed. Sales came down from the 444 during the prior week and were the lowest since early June. Two out of eight coins managed only single digit gains while the remaining pulled off double digit gains.
Jane Pierce proofs and uncirculated led in sales again, tacking on 81 and 51 respectively, while previously they had risen 89 and 181. Third and fourth place went to Margaret Taylor and Abigail Fillmore proofs. Each picked up 22 and 21 new sales. [click to continue…]
Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins led in sales again, and the series’ combined total of coins sold picked up a few more during the week than the last report, US Mint sales data shows. Together, 444 sold, beating the prior data by 31. This time, the uncirculated 24-karat gold pieces bested the proofs, and the Jane Pierce uncirculated took the top spot.

In this week’s United States Mint sales data, every First Spouse Gold Coin slowed. Retreating sales is common in the fourth week following a new coin launch, but this time the weekly increase was less than half of last week’s. Only 413 of the 24-karat gold pieces were purchased, following 918 previously.
Jane Pierce proof coins continued their high-stepping march above the older coins, bringing in 196 in new sales. All others stayed in double digit figures. The United States Mint began selling their Franklin and Jane Pierce Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Metal Set on Thursday, June 24 at noon Eastern Time, for $11.95.
The two coin set contains an uncirculated Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 coin and a 1-5/16 inch bronze medal identical to the Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin. Demand for First Spouse Gold Coins marginally declined last week, while the newest Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins remained the most sought after in the series. Of the 918 sold, 449 were Jane Pierce proofs and another 164 were Jane Pierce uncirculated, the latest United States Mint sales figures reveal. The previous spouse coin total had been 975.
Half of the eight available first lady coins performed better than the prior week. The four higher were the Margaret Taylor proof and uncirculated, the Sarah Polk proof, and the Abigail Fillmore uncirculated. The biggest jump went to the uncirculated Margaret Taylor gold piece. Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin demand remained in triple digits while the older 24-karat coins maintained double digit advances, United States Mint sales figures revealed.
Overall, sales were mixed. Three of the eight coins in the series were higher than the prior week, even as prices for the gold pieces remained at their highest level.
Following their opening sales, the Jane Pierce coins increased by 719 together. Proofs rose 498 and the uncirculated version climbed by 221. Total sales hit 3,153 since their launch on June 3, 2010. Collector interest improved for First Spouse Gold Coins this past week, according to the latest round of United States Mint figures. All of the coin sales were up, despite the continuing higher coin prices as a result of record level gold prices.
The brand new Jane Pierce coins were the hottest. They went on sale last Thursday, and by Sunday 1,579 proofs and 855 uncirculated sold. Combined, their total reached 2,434. Their start was down, however, from the Abigail Fillmore coins launch which totaled 2,881. [click to continue…]

These 24-karats one-half ounce gold coins are being added to coin collections around the world. The special gold series started in 2007 and honor the spouses of each U. S. President.
