First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logo

First Spouse Gold Coin sales were mostly lower over the last several days, according to the latest United States Mint sales data.

While last week’s report showed sales increased for six of eight First Lady coins, a reversal occurred in recent days with demand declining for seven of eight coins.

The only gainer over the prior report was the proof Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin — sales climbed by 120, or 2.9 percent compared to the prior 73, or 1.8 percent increase.

Both Louisa Adams coins will no longer be available from the US Mint after the release of Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin on Thursday, June 4. As such, there may be the potential for their sales to pickup during their final week of availability.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoThe pace of First Spouse Gold Coin sales increased for six of the eight options sold by the United States Mint, new sales stats reveal.

Anna Harrison and Louisa Adams proof coins were the only gold pieces to experience a reduction in demand compared to the prior week. On the flip side and for the second straight week, the uncirculated Adams was the winner with the most sold.

As a reminder, both Adams coins will no longer be available from the Mint once the Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin goes on sale June 4.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoIn an unusual week of reporting for the series, Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin sales declined but tallies for all other First Lady coins were higher.

More coin collectors are buying up Louisa Adams First Spouse coins in particular. New sales for the uncirculated coin increased by 187 and the proof option saw a rise of 209. The numbers are nothing to shout home about, but are actually solid when it comes to the series. As a comparison, the same coins totals in the prior report were 55 and 45, respectively.

Why the increased interest in Louisa Adams? The Adams’ will be taken off US Mint store shelves in three weeks when gold coins honoring Letitia Tyler go on sale June 4.

As a reminder, when this week’s sales are reported next week, the First Spouse Coin price increases are likely to play into the picture. Prices on Wednesday went up $25 for each gold coin option.

Declining ChartFirst Spouse Gold Coin prices will be raised Wednesday or Thursday by $25 each, based on higher gold prices and the Mint’s pricing grid.

The Mint uses a weekly average of London Fix prices (the previous Thursday a.m. Fix through to the Wednesday a.m. Fix), and that gold average it currently above $900 an ounce. With that, an upward price adjustment is in the works.

In recent times when an update was needed, the Mint changed prices around noon on Wednesday. However, it has also made the move Thursday morning. [click to continue…]

Jackson’s Liberty and Louisa Adams proof coins managed to remain level without declines, and came in with sales increases of 1.0 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively, which is the same as the previous reported gains.

On a unit basis, the proof Anna Harrison climbed the most with 101 purchased. Van Buren’s Liberty uncirculated coin recorded the lowest number of sales, with 40 more sold.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoIt was an ungentle week for First Spouse Gold Coin sales, to say the least. With the exception of Anna Harrison spouse coins, all other figures fell.

The US Mint does not include reasons for coin movements, up or down, in their weekly sales reports. However, at least a portion of the declines is likely attributed to returns, with collectors sending back recent purchases following the $25 price reduction last Wednesday for each coin.

Demand for 2009 Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coins picked up despite her sister coin loses. Unit sales for the proof were up 173 while the uncirculation option climbed 69. Since they first went on sale March 5, a combined 8,529 have been sold.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoWith the exception of 2009 Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coins, demand for the series picked up across the board, according to the latest sales figures from the United States Mint.

The Harrisons were issued March 5, giving them an edge in newness. But as is typical with fresh coin launches, sales peak early, and then gradually decline. The percent increase figures shine compared to the other coins, but they are lower than last week.

Interestingly, when looking at the column for number of coins sold ("Unit Increase") over the last report, uncirculated 2009 Anna Harrison coins are lower than the 2008-dated counterparts.

In other news for the series this week, the US Mint issued the Harrison Presidential $1 & First Spouse Medal Set on the 7th and First Spouse Coin prices dropped by $25 on Wednesday. The latter may have some impact on next week’s figures.

Declining ChartFirst Spouse Gold Coin prices are headed lower this week, according to the US Mint policy to adjust pricing for gold coins using the London Fix weekly average.

The "magic" threshold for current Mint pricing is based on a London gold average of between $900-$950 an ounce, which kicked in and was used for the last round of Mint gold coin price reductions. Since Thursday, gold steadily began its track below $900 an ounce — triggering likely cuts Wednesday.

Using the Mint First Spouse Gold Coins Price Grid and assuming gold doesn’t shoot ballistically high Wednesday AM, prices will fall by $25. Proof coins now at $629 will come down to $604. Uncirculated coins will adjust from $616 to $591. [click to continue…]
