First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logo Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins have registered on the US Mint sales board. From their launch on Thursday, July 2, to Sunday, July 5, collectors purchased 1,853 proof and 1,020 uncirculated coins.

The figures are more than respectable given the recent sales history of the series and considering they were released immediately prior to the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Numbers for the remaining options were mostly lower last week, with a notable exception of the no longer sold Louisa Adams coin. While the uncirculated option remained unchanged, the proof climbed by 504 and stopped at 7,454. Next week should be telling in terms of whether the numbers are absolutely final.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoFirst Spouse Coin sales were again mixed last week but trended a touch higher, according to new US Mint data.

Four of eight coins climbed, two were unchanged and two slid, when comparing the week prior and week-over-week percent increases for the gold coin series. None moved in either direction by any significant factor.

The biggest gainer in the group was the proof Anna Harrison First Spouse coin, rising by 94. The uncirculated version advanced just 16.

Sales of Louisa Adams coins end Thursday, and that fact did not help either the proof or uncirculated version last week. They appear to be closing out as the scarcest in the series to date.

In looking back to the month of June, unlike the gold and silver eagle coin surge, the First Lady series was mostly lackluster for the month.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoFirst Spouse Coin Sales were mixed last week, but mostly leaned lower following the prior week where every coin had declined in performance.

In comparing US Mint figures from the week prior and week-over-week percent increases, two of eight coins inched higher, two were unchanged and four slipped. Anna Harrison gold coins lead with 1.1 percent increases. The proof version also garnered the top spot for most coins sold at an unremarkable 50.

In related news, the US Mint updated its’ coin schedule for the second time in June. The release date for Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins has shifted again, but this time just one day ahead to June 2.

When the new coins launch, the US Mint will no longer offer Louisa Adams First Spouse Gold Coins. That could potentially help their sales — although they were the recipient of at least one bump in numbers several weeks back (presumably the result of collectors preparing for their departure on June 4 when the Letitia Tyler coin was first scheduled for release).

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoSales of US Mint First Spouse Gold coins stalled across the entire series last week. In looking at the latest number, the only happy campers are likely to be collectors who like the mintage figures to stay put and scarce.

In terms of new sales, Anna Harrison gold coins lead again with 55 of the uncirculated and 66 of the proof coins purchased.

The remaining six gold coins have new sale numbers ranging between 10 and 50, with most leaning toward the middle.

Coin prices were lowered on Wednesday, which should help the figures next week.

Declining ChartWith the cost of gold on the slide recently, it is expected that the US Mint will be reducing its’ prices on the First Spouse Gold Coins. This is bad news for those investing in gold, but great news for coin collectors.

You may recall, the Mint has tied the pricing of the Spouse coins to the recent average of gold on the London Fix. The London Fix is a benchmark used by large institutions when trading the precious metal. [click to continue…]

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logo

Van Buren’s Liberty First Spouse gold proof coin topped the 6,000 marker, although sales of the gold coin actually declined from the prior week.

Worse, five of the eight US Mint sold First Spouse Coins experienced reduced sales — a turnaround from our last report where seven showed improved week-over-week gains.

The semi reversal is not without explanation. Gold prices were on the rise and forced a $25 price increase on June 3 for each coin — a non helpful event for the series.

Standing out from the crowd were the Anna Harrison gold coins. The uncirculated coin jumped 5.1 percent higher (110 more sold) from the prior figures while the proof increased 4.2 percent (185 additional sold). The other gainer was Jackson’s Liberty uncirculated coin — ironically, the coin in last week’s report with the weakest numbers.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logo

Sales picked up for all but one of the available eight US Mint First Spouse Gold Coins. Given that the numbers were less than impressive the last go-around, the task of overtaking them was hardly a magnificent feat. But several of the coins had solid figures that would standout on any week.

Leading the charge with the most sold were Louisa Adams gold coins. 424 of the proof and uncirculated options were recently purchased. Helping was the fact that collectors were expecting the coins to go off sale Thursday when Letitia Tyler spouse gold coins were set to launch.

However, the Mint had different plans as they updated their coin product schedule, moving the release of the Letitia Tyler spouse gold coins from June 4 to July 1. With that, the thinking is that the Louisa Adams coins will be available for several more weeks. (For more, read Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin Delayed, Gold Coin Prices Rise.)

The only coin to receive less attention than the others was the uncirculated Jackson’s Liberty. Sales climbed by just 0.8 percent compared to the prior 1.4 percent increase.

Gold prices have been on the rise recently, jumping 10 percent in May and increasing the intrinsic value of the First Spouse Coins. That had to make the coins more attractive for some collectors from a price perspective. However, the US Mint raised prices today by $25 for each coin. That may have an impact on next week’s numbers.

June starts with two major developments for First Spouse Gold Coins. First, each coin will increase in price this week by $25. Second, the launch of the Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin has been postponed.

For the former, the US Mint will increase uncirculated First Spouse Gold Coins from to $616 to $641, and the proof versions from $629 to $654. The new price updates will likely take affect by Wednesday noon, as they follow the Mint’s pricing policy to readjust collector gold coin prices based on the weekly average of London gold prices.
