First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoTwo new 2010 coins debuted and demand skyrocketed, per the latest United States Mint sales data. Collectors went after 5,505 Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coins since the coins launched on Thursday, December 2.

Inaugural figures for Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coins faired well against prior 2010 coin launches. Buchanan’s Liberty coins started a little better, but Lincoln’s coins exceeded both Pierce and Fillmore’s. The following table shows this year’s debuting coin sales.

    Sales Debut
Mary Todd Lincoln Proof 3,635
  Uncirculated 1,870
Buchanan’s Liberty Proof 3,641
  Uncirculated 2,486
Jane Pierce Proof 1,579
  Uncirculated 855
Abigail Fillmore Proof 1,057
  Uncirculated 1,824

Buchanan’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coins spiked in the two weeks since the last report. (Perhaps Lincoln’s launch helped push them higher.) 122 proofs and 57 uncirculated Buchanan coins sold, leaving 4,364 still available for holiday shoppers. The US Mint set their limit at 15,000 and 10,636 have been purchased so far.

The US Mint did not reveal the final numbers for the Margaret Taylor First Spouse proof and uncirculated coins. In the past, units usually picked up during the last days before a coin’s deadline, and Taylor’s coins were discontinued on December 2.

Only three Presidential $1 and First Spouse Medal Set numbers were updated in the Mint’s latest report. Buchanan’s set surged 834 and Pierce’s jumped 331. Fillmore’s set advanced by 178, but the counts for Taylor and Polk’s sets stayed the same. The Taylor and Polk sets last sale date is scheduled for Thursday, December 30 at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.

The 24 karat gold coins narrowly escaped a price increase yesterday. The London Fix Wednesday PM gold price clocked in at $1,385.50 per ounce, and so the Mint did not make any adjustments.

Since the coins’ prices are the same, customers who are waiting until December 10 to do their holiday shopping will not have to pay more for waiting. The 10th of December is probably the last day to place an order with standard shipping and have the gift delivered by December 24 if the items are in stock.
