First Spouse Gold Coin sales suffered last week while their prices were at all time highs. The combined total sold was about half that of the prior report –427 compared to 841, according to the latest United State Mint sales figures. Only one coin out of the ten available performed better.
Uncirculated Margaret Taylor First Spouse Gold Coins gained 278, which was about 65 percent of the week’s total for the group. The second best seller was Abigail Fillmore’s proof. 67 were purchased. Letitia Tyler’s proof picked up one and was the least popular in this report.
Spouse coin prices should drop by $25 on Thursday, the 27th, because the London Fix for gold plunged last week and prices did not pick up enough this week.
The US Mint bases the prices of their numismatic gold coins on the London Fix average from Thursday AM to Wednesday AM. That average fell between $1,150.00 and $1,199.99 which, according to the Mint’s pricing policy, dictates spouse coins should be $754 for the proof and $741 for the uncirculated.
Since the Mint did not change prices today, which is atypical, they are expected to change before noon on Thursday. Right now proof and uncirculated versions are still $779 and $766, as they have been since the 12th.
The next First Spouse coin issued for 2010 will be the Jane Pierce gold coins. They will launch on June 3rd. If tradition holds, the oldest available coins will discontinue on the same day. If that is true, then the Letitia Tylers’ will go off sale and they will likely end up with the lowest mintages in the First Spouse Gold Coin series.
