First Spouse Gold Coins’ Phenomenal Rebound

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoFirst Spouse Gold Coin sales had a phenomenal 841 contribution in this week’s report, despite the fact that their prices hit an all time high mid-week last. The newest United States Mint sales figures show that all of the coins ended up with positive numbers, and three went into triple digit gains. The others rose by double digits.

The biggest players were Abigail Fillmore and Margaret Taylor’s proofs, each adding 208 and 143 respectively. Abigail Fillmore’s uncirculated made third by picking up 119. In last place was the Letitia Tyler uncirculated at 39.

Prices for the proof and uncirculated versions have been $779 and $766 since the 12th. In order for prices to change up or down, the London Fix weekly average for gold would either need to exceed $1,250 or fall below $1,200. This week’s average did neither, so First Spouse coin prices will stay the same.

However, gold did retreat below $1,200 an ounce on Wednesday so the spread between the first lady coins and their intrinsic gold worth is now much larger. If gold prices continue to fall, buyers may wait until later next week to place new orders with expectations that the coins will be cheaper then.

A last burst of energy is still needed for the Letitia Tyler coins to pass the Anna Harrison coins before they are taken off the shelf, presumably on June 3rd when the 2010 Jane Pierce First Spouse coins launch. That date is only 15 days from now. The Harrison coins have the lowest mintages in the First Spouse Gold Coin series.
