Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins Top 3,000

Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin demand remained in triple digits while the older 24-karat coins maintained double digit advances, United States Mint sales figures revealed.

Overall, sales were mixed. Three of the eight coins in the series were higher than the prior week, even as prices for the gold pieces remained at their highest level.

Following their opening sales, the Jane Pierce coins increased by 719 together. Proofs rose 498 and the uncirculated version climbed by 221. Total sales hit 3,153 since their launch on June 3, 2010. These second week numbers were not as high as Abigail Fillmore’s second week, but they were close to the Margaret Taylor’s after they started in December 2009.

One major difference — Taylor’s coins in their second week were priced at $729 for proofs and $716 for the uncirculated. Today’s prices remain at $779 and $766 with no change in sight.

Abigail Fillmore proofs almost hit triple digits. 99 were scooped up by collectors, making them third most popular last week. They gained 81 in the prior report. The fourth place position was less than half, however. Sarah Polk uncirculated coins picked up 42, which was another improvement over the prior 29.

In all, the Mint sold 975 First Spouse coins last week.
