First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoThe latest US Mint sales figures showed 446 new sales for the 24 karat gold First Spouse Coins. One fourth of those new sales belonged to Anna Harrison’s Uncirculated version.

118 Anna Harrison Uncirculated coins were sold, earning the top spot among the highest weekly earners. Harrison’s Proof came in fifth place with 29 sold. Typically, oldest available coins experience a sales rally just before being discontinued from the Mint when a new coin is launched. The Harrison coins were released in March 2009, and the 2010 Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Gold Coins are set to launch next month on March 4.

Fillmore’s launch date might change, however, because the Mint had the March 4 date posted in their 2010 Scheduled Products Listing web page since mid-January, but recently edited it to simply say "March".

If the Mint keeps the date, then there is only one week left to buy Anna Harrison coins. Right now, it seems unlikely that the Harrison Uncirculated will break the 4,000 mark and the Proof will reach the 7,000 mark, like all of the 2008-dated coins did. Harrison’s gold coins are at 3,448 Uncirculated and 6,150 Proof. Currently, the lowest sales for discontinued First Spouse Coins belongs to Louisa Adams, with 4,223 Uncirculated and 7,454 Proof.

Today, the US Mint raised its gold coin prices by $25. A Proof First Spouse coin is now $729 and the Uncirculated is $716. Prices went up because the Mint’s pricing policy is based on the London Fix weekly average price of gold, which broke the $1,100 threshold that triggered the increase. (See coin price grid.) The last price change — a decrease — occurred on January 27.
