The United States Mint began selling their Franklin and Jane Pierce Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Metal Set on Thursday, June 24 at noon Eastern Time, for $11.95.

The two coin set contains an uncirculated Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 coin and a 1-5/16 inch bronze medal identical to the Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin. The coins are packaged within a plastic card that has a portrait of the fourteenth President and First Lady with information on the back.

The set is the second for 2010 and the fifteenth for the popular collector series that honors both former Presidents and their First Ladies.

The Presidential dollar’s obverse or heads side was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Charles Vickers. It features an image of Franklin Pierce with inscriptions that read “Franklin Pierce”, “In God We Trust”, “14th President” and “1853 -1857.”

The obverse of the 1-5/16 inch bronze medal features the portrait of Jane Pierce and was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Don Everhart. The medal’s reverse depicts Mrs. Pierce sitting in the visitor’s gallery of the old Senate Chamber in the U.S. Capitol building and was also designed by Weaver but sculpted by Charles Vickers.
