First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoNormally, when US First Spouse Gold Coin prices drop, sales go up. That was not the case this time. According to the latest United States Mint sales data, First Spouse coin sales took a nose dive. Overall sales retreated by negative 188. Last week’s overall was (positive) 240.

This report showed a triple digit adjustment on the Margaret Taylor Uncirculated coins, -235. The Proof version was not much better, dropping back -59. Perhaps the gains made on the Jan. 17 sales data for the Taylor coins, 320 and 261, were the object of the returns, cancellations, or accounting corrections.

Coin prices fell $25, from $729 to $704 for the proofs and $716 to $704 for the uncirculated on Jan. 27. The last time the Mint cut prices was Dec. 16. The following sales report later showed improvements.

On the bright side, the most sought after Spouse coin was the Letitia Tyler proofs, adding 19 and reaching 4,672. In second place was the Sarah Polk proofs, climbing 17 to arrive at 4,118 total.

One day these coins will be highly sought after. The mintages so low and aside from the Buffalo, the only other 24k gold coin minted.

Just a note of encouragement for this site. I look at or refer to this site one or two times a week. I think the information provided on this site is invaluable, and also provides significant education about the First Spouses themselves. Keep up the great work! After seeing the lack of comments over the past several weeks, I did not want you guys to think that we were not appreciative of your site!

I really enjoy your articles and thanks for all the information. I did not receive one this past week. Did you send one out? Thanks

Thanks! The winter storms through the DC area shut the US Mint down for all but one day last week. As a result, they did not send sales figures. We did receive the latest batch of numbers late this afternoon, however, and will make them available tomorrow.
