According to the latest United States Mint sales figures, Polk’s uncirculated advanced by 99 compared to 97 previously. The second closest gain was Jane Pierce’s proof, which increased by 59, while in the prior report it had been 211.
Overall, 310 coins sold. The earlier report was 538, and prices remained the same at $754 for the proofs and $741 for uncirculated versions.
Perhaps Sarah Polk’s popularity has to do with the upcoming release of James Buchanan’s Liberty First Spouse Coin on September 2, 2010. Time is running out for Sarah Polk coins because it has been the Mint’s practice to discontinue the oldest coin when launching a new one. This time the oldest coin the Mint is selling is the 2009 Sarah Polk versions. So far, 4,935 proof and 3,235 uncirculated Polk coins have been scooped up by collectors.
Sales for the most recently issued Franklin & Jane Pierce Presidential $1 & First Spouse Medal Set picked up again for the second week in a row. After adding 394 previously, 409 were added in this round. The Fillmore set slowed down by a little bit. They climbed by 83 after adding 85.
