Sales remained robust for the new 2010 James Buchanan’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coins, the latest United States Mint sales data revealed. 780 proofs and 492 uncirculated sold, making the combined total grow closer to the maximum mintage.
Mintage limits were reduced for the 2010 coins from 20,000 for each product option to 15,000 across both, and Buchanan’s Liberty coins came close to reaching the halfway mark. In just ten days since the release, the total sold hit 7,399, which accounts for 49.3 percent of the maximum allowed.
Demand for other first lady coins was not as strong. Collectors took 50 proof and 45 uncirculated Jane Pierce gold pieces, as well as 31 of Abigail Fillmore’s proofs. The uncirculated version of Fillmore’s coins tied for selling the least, at 26, after being the third best seller in the last round, advancing by 235.
Next week’s sales numbers should be interesting since the Mint raised prices by $25 on September 15. The new prices are the highest the coins have ever been since the series began in 2007. They went up to $804 for the proofs and $791 for the uncirculated.
Sales for Presidential $1 and Medal Sets did not change by much, except for the best selling item, the Franklin and Jane Pierce Set. It advanced 98, which was down from 157 previously. The next set to come, Buchanan’s Presidential $1 and Medal Set, will be released September 23.
