in Mint Sales Figures

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoFirst Spouse Gold Coins were in higher demand, according to the latest US Mint sales report. As a group, they grew by 1,238. The jump was a little surprising since prior totals had been 1,038 and 1,125.

Abigail Fillmore coins were again most popular. Collectors purchased 433 proof and 225 uncirculated. Although Fillmore’s growth is gently losing momentum. Their prior weekly gains were 534 and 232, and the week before that their numbers were 617 and 323.

Two more coins catapulted to triple digit numbers for the sales week. Margaret Taylor proofs jumped by 112, and Letitia Tyler proofs advanced by 104. Impressive, to say the least. The last time these two experienced similar increases was mid-February for Margaret Taylor and mid 2009 for Letitia Tyler.

It will be interesting to see if demand remains strong for the series in the coming days. The US Mint raised prices by $25 on Wednesday morning, since the London Fix weekly average for gold jumped to the next tier in the Mint’s coin pricing grid. The average gold spot price hit $1,153.53 this morning.

The last time First Spouse Gold Coin prices were $754 for the proofs and $741 for uncirculated options was between Nov. 24 and Dec. 16, 2009. These are the highest price points ever for the coin series which dates back to 2007.
