First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoThe United States Mint increased prices for First Spouse Gold Coins yesterday, making them more expensive than they have ever been since the series began in 2007.

First Spouse proof coins are now $854 and uncirculated are $841. The reason for the price change was the precious metal’s rising market price. For details, see the article from Tuesday.

In the U.S. Mint sales report, four unusual occurrences stood out. First, the uncirculated Buchanan Liberty First Spouse gold coin sold zero. In previous reports, it had increased by 27 and decreased by -29 consecutively, so perhaps in this round there were just enough returns to cancel out new sales.

The second anomaly was the uncirculated Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold coins. 298 sold in this round versus 9 in the last. Plus, her proof version gained 54 and was the second highest selling coin in this round. Usually the newest or the oldest First Spouse gold coins take first and second place in the weekly race.

Third, Abigail Fillmore’s uncirculated coins dropped by -51, but then again, declines occur from time to time with this series.

The good news is that despite Fillmore’s negativity and Buchanan’s zero, the combined total of the 24 karat gold coins reached 452, which was up from the 128 gain in the last round.

As for the Presidential $1 and First Spouse Medal Sets, the most notable change was the John and Julia Tyler Set. It was adjusted by -318. Their total moved from 10,077 down to 9,759.
