The United States Mint posted a “Last Opportunity Sale” that includes First Spouse Gold Coins. The proof and uncirculated Margaret Taylor First Spouse Gold Coins will be pulled from the Mint’s line-up on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 12:00 noon (ET). Each coin has a $10 face value and is struck from 1/2 ounce of 24-karat gold.

As of this writing, only 31 days are left to purchase the gold coins. The Margaret Taylor coins officially went on sale December 3, 2009, 12:00 Noon (ET).

It has been the Mint’s practice to offer the coins for a limited time, and it typically takes the oldest First Spouse Gold Coins off sale right before it launches a new First Spouse design. The next one to be released will be the 2010 Mary Todd Lincoln Gold Coin.

Lincoln’s coin is the fourth for 2010 and the seventeenth in the spousal series, even though her husband was the sixteenth President. (Remember, John Tyler had two wives during his time in office.)

Also being released on December 2 are the Mary Todd Lincoln Bronze Medal as well as the 2010 First Spouse Four-Medal Set. This four-medal set contains each bronze medal from the first lady series released in 2010, which feature Abigail Fillmore, Jane Pierce, James Buchanan’s Liberty, and Mary Lincoln.

The other Mary Lincoln product, the Lincoln Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set®, will be released on Thursday, December 23, 2010.

Also in the “Last Opportunity Sale" are two Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Sets. The 2009 James and Sarah Polk Set and the 2009 Zachary and Margaret Taylor Set will be removed on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at 3:00 PM (ET). Counting today, that leaves 59 days to buy the sets.

The Mint did not publish a Last Opportunity date for the 2009 Sarah Polk Bronze Medal or the 2009 Margaret Taylor Bronze Medal.

All of these products may be ordered from the US Mint’s online store at http://catalog.usmint.gov/, or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
