First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoDemand plummeted for First Spouse Gold Coins, following an increase during the prior week, the latest United States Mint sales data revealed. Customers only wanted 159 of the coins, versus 558 previously.

4,543 Buchanan’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coins remained available. The US Mint set their limit at 15,000 and 10,457 has been purchased so far. Only 70 were taken in this round, which was down considerably after 237 were scooped up previously. The best seller was the proof version with 54.

The second top seller, for the second week in a row, was the proof Margaret Taylor coins with a unit increase of 32. Last place went to Abigail Fillmore’s uncirculated. Collectors only picked up four of them.

Only 8 days are left for the 2009 Margaret Taylor gold coins. Thursday, December 2 at 12:00 PM ET is quickly approaching and then the US Mint will stop taking orders for them. A combined total of 8,217 have sold, and it seems unlikely they will pass the 2009 Sarah Polk total, which was 8,658.

Once the US Mint takes the Margaret Taylor coins off, they will launch the 2010 Mary Lincoln First Spouse Coins. Also on the schedule is the 2010 First Spouse Bronze Medal Series Four-Medal Set. It will be released the same day.

Demand for the Presidential $1 and Medal Sets also retreated. 373 sold compared to 463 in the prior week. For some reason, there were no orders for the Buchanan set or the Pierce set. Usually, those two are most popular. In this round, the 2009 Taylor set took first place and the 2009 Polk set took second. The Mint placed an ordering deadline of Thursday, December 30 at 3:00 PM ET for the Taylor and Polk sets.

One week prior to the deadline, the Mint is releasing the Abraham and Mary Lincoln Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Set on Thursday, December 23, 2010.
