First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoSarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coins awoke from a long sleep, the most recent United States Mint sales figures revealed. The uncirculated gold piece jumped by 78, and the proofs advanced by 27. Polk’s numbers haven’t been that high since a surprise spike in April. The increase for the uncirculated version moved the total beyond the 3,000 mark, and together 7,909 have sold since they launched on Sept. 3, 2009.

In seven days, the entire Spouse series gained 282, up from 181 previously. Five out of the available eight coins saw higher sales, and seven experienced double digit gains. Still, July has not been as good as June, but that is to be expected since the U.S. Mint released the Jane Pierce coins on June 3 which drew in the typical influx of orders.

Jane Pierce proofs came in second place by a hair, since they increased by 77. Pierce’s uncirculated took third, rising by 35. Abigail Fillmore uncirculated coins ranked last, for the second week in a row, but at least their gain was positive. In the last report, Fillmore’s uncirculated fell by -18, but this time increased by 6.

First Spouse Gold Coin prices dropped by $25 Wednesday afternoon, after certain criteria were met. The Mint bases the prices of their numismatic gold coins on the London Fix average from Thursday AM to Wednesday AM, and the range in use was $1,200.00 to $1,249.99. Since gold prices fell below that level a number of times in the last several days, the new weekly average declined to $1,193.39. The final Wednesday PM Fix price was at $1,191.50, which was also under $1,200 and flipped the final lever which pulled down coin prices.

The new range in use is $1,150.00 to $1,199.99, and the 24-karat half ounce gold coins are now priced $754 for the proof and $741 for the uncirculated. They had been $779 and $766 since May 12. This price drop should facilitate sales for the remainder of the week as long as gold prices do not plummet. (The First Spouse Coin Sales Guide has been updated.)

Sales of the Franklin & Jane Pierce Presidential $1 & First Spouse Medal Set slowed again. All of the sets, in fact, were lower. Pierce’s set climbed 338, versus 483 previously. Fillmore’s set rose by 67, after advancing by 105 in the last report.
