Lower prices helped boost sales for Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coins. Proof and uncirculated versions’ combined to reach 262, nearly half of the entire series weekly total of 538, according to the latest United States Mint sales figures. The previous gains were much lower — 112 for the Pierce coins out of 282 for the whole group.
Every coin actually gained in sales over prior weekly numbers. Jane Pierce proofs rose the most by adding 211. Sarah Polk uncirculated was the second biggest gainer, increasing by 97. The two coins that moved the least, picking up 29 each, were Abigail Fillmore uncirculated and Margaret Taylor proofs.
Collectors had to wait from May 12 to July 21 for a rate change while prices stayed at their peak of $779 for the proofs and $766 for uncirculated. Due to the drop in the London Fix’s weekly average gold price, the US Mint cut First Spouse Gold Coin prices by $25 late last Wednesday. The new prices are $754 and $741.
Sales for the most recently issued Franklin & Jane Pierce Presidential $1 & First Spouse Medal Set picked up.
