First Spouse Coin Prices Changing

in Coin Prices

The US Mint is going to increase prices of First Spouse Gold Coins by $25. The Mint’s pricing policy is based on the London Fix weekly average price of gold, which has been higher recently than the last several weeks. This week, London gold is averaging $1,176.75 an ounce, which is above the $1,150 an ounce threshold on the Mint’s price grid, thus triggering a price raise.

If the Mint keeps the time schedule it has used in the past when a price change is necessary, the Mint will adjust First Spouse coin prices before noon ET on Wednesday. A Proof First Spouse coin is now $729 and the Uncirculated is $716. Those prices will change to $754 and $741.

The rise on the London Fix can be seen in the table below with the daily AM and PM prices during the week. Monday, May 3rd was a London holiday.

The only way the half ounce gold First Spouse coins would avoid a price change is if Wednesday morning’s London Fix falls below $989.50 an ounce. The likelihood of such a fall as that is very miniscule. Worldwide demand for the precious metal seems to be keeping prices at current levels.

Perhaps sales for First Spouse coins have already jumped since the quick rise in gold prices provided opportunities for collectors. Certainly those who pay attention to the London Fix and the Mint’s price grid witnessed the opening. For others, sometimes a spike in gold causes them to look again at the series.
