First Spouse Coin Sales Figures logoIf lagging United States Mint sales is an indication of summer, then summer is here. Demand settled for the entire series, not just the most recent Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin issues.

As a group the entire series gained 181, the most recent U.S. Mint sales data showed. Sales came down from the 444 during the prior week and were the lowest since early June. Two out of eight coins managed only single digit gains while the remaining pulled off double digit gains.

Jane Pierce proofs and uncirculated led in sales again, tacking on 81 and 51 respectively, while previously they had risen 89 and 181. Third and fourth place went to Margaret Taylor and Abigail Fillmore proofs. Each picked up 22 and 21 new sales.

As far as totals go, Abigail Fillmore proof coins have remained ahead of Margaret Taylor’s, even though the latter have been on the market longer. Taylor’s coins launched on December 3, 2009, and Fillmore’s launched March 18, 2010. One month after Fillmore’s launch, however, her proofs took lead over Taylor’s and have stayed there. Fillmore’s proof total is now at 4,567, while Taylor’s is at 4,026.

The new total for Abigail Fillmore’s uncirculated, for some reason, declined by -18 in this report, possibly due to cancellations or auditing. Formerly the total had been 2,472, but in this report it was 2,454.

Sales of the Franklin & Jane Pierce Presidential $1 & First Spouse Medal Set slowed tremendously. 483 were purchased, compared to 1,080 previously. Fillmore’s set rose by 105, after advancing by 151 in last week’s report. Sales for all of the sets, in fact, were slower.

The following tables compare the prior to most recent U.S. Mint sales data:
